Peru Treks & Adventure - Community
Projects
Peru Treks & Adventure
is committed to promoting and organizing projects within the
community in Peru. Although tourism plays a vital role in
contributing to Peru's economy and providing employment many
people and communities aren't sharing in any of the financial
gains. Although our projects are operated on a small scale with
very little capital investment we hope that successful ideas will
be adopted by some of the larger international tour operators to
the mutual benefit of both local villagers and the visitor alike.
One of the most important factors when deciding to implement a
project is that it doesn't promise miracles or give false hopes
and expectations to the people you are trying to help. We believe
a little help in the right direction is often better than a big
push in the wrong one. We always appreciate new ideas from
visitors and feedback about what you think we can do to improve,
develop or promote our projects.
Below you'll find a brief outline of some of the projects that we
are currently running:
1. School Construction
Every year Peru Treks gets involved in
the construction of a school in one of the poorer communities in
the Andes. In 2005 we built a school for 60 children in the remote
community of Checaspampa near Ausangate. Since then we have
continued to support the school with school equipment, sports
shirts, second hand clothing and we even paid for a teacher for
nearly 2 years before the local council agreed to provide this
resource. In 2006 Peru Treks donated US$5000 to a local non-profit
organisation to build a kindergarten for 30 children in the
village of Umuto, near Ccatca (between Cusco and Ausangate). In
2007 Peru Treks has donated another US$5000 to this non-profit
organisation to build another kindergarten in the small community
of Pampallacta close to Chahuaytire (between Pisac and
Paucartambo). A group of our clients donated an additional US$2500
to this project which we hope will be completed on November 2007

2. Donation of
School Equipment
Funding for schools
in the villages is extremely poor especially for primary schools.
Teachers wages are minimal and many lack resources and enthusiasm.
This project is aimed at helping to improve the conditions in some
of the schools by providing items such as exercise books, pencils, crayons
and paper.

Second Hand Clothing Donations
If you are planning on coming to Peru please pack a
few extra items in your suitcase and bring them to our office in
Cusco. We need second hand clothes (particularly for children),
toys, books, shoes etc. Peru Treks will arrange to distribute them to children in the
villages who are really in need of these gifts.
