Every Christmas Peru Treks
holds a big football championship, barbeque, and distribution of
Christmas presents to the children of all of our porters. We also give
our porters Paneton (a traditional Peruvian Christmas cake) and a
football shirt. This year we had 6 teams competing for the trophy: 3
teams made up of porters, 1 team from the Peru treks office and 2
teams of guides and assistants. Of course the office team won
(again!). Christmas presents, hot chocolate were given out to nearly
200 children of our porters. We now have over 110 porters working full
time for Peru Treks, 5 cooks, 12 guides, and 6 office staff. If we
include the wives and children it means that over 350 people now
depend on Peru Treks. |
